The president of the Bulgarian Football Union Georgi Ivanov and the executive director of the headquarters Borislav Popov took part in the 74th FIFA Congress, which for the first time in history was held in Bangkok, Thailand. Representatives of 211 football associations, members of the world football headquarters, took part in the large-scale event. Part of the Bulgarian delegation was also the head of the International Department of the BFS, Iveta Bankova-Stoyanova, and among the star guests, at the personal invitation of FIFA President Gianni Infantino, was the legend of Bulgarian football, Hristo Stoichkov.
One of the key decisions taken during the Congress was the choice of Brazil to host the Women's World Cup in 2027. The South American country received 119 votes and was preferred over the joint bid of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, which received 78 votes.
During the Congress in Thailand, a large-scale plan for uncompromising measures against all manifestations of racism and other forms of discrimination in the beloved game was presented. The Chairman of the Refereeing Committee at FIFA, Pierluigi Collina, gave a special presentation, where he introduced the attendees to the latest trends in refereeing. /BGNES
