Nigel Farage has made an offer to the new British government that it is certain to refuse.
The right-wing "Brexiteer" said he would help the country's centre-left Labour administration strike a deal with Donald Trump if the Republican returned to the White House next January, Politico reported.
"I repeat that if this government needs help dealing with Trump, I will do everything I can," he said.
Farage, who heads Reform UK, is a close British ally of the former president and has often campaigned alongside him.
The first British politician to meet Trump since his 2016 election victory, Farage also interviewed him on his GB News show and received a flattering birthday message from the former president as he turned 60.
The Reform UK leader, who was elected to parliament for the first time this year, ruled out succeeding Karen Pearce as the next British ambassador to Washington - an unlikely outcome given the deep policy differences between his party and Labour.
"Clearly I've decided to get back into electoral politics, so I'm not on the agenda," he said.
Farage has previously touted his chances of getting the top diplomatic post, saying he would "of course" answer the call if it came.
While Farage's offer may seem far-fetched, Labour may need all the help it can get to talk to Trump if he triumphs in the coming weeks.
The party is currently embroiled in a transatlantic dispute with the Republican candidate's team, which has attacked Labour helping his Democratic rival Kamala Harris. | BGNES
