EU plans five-year tariffs of up to 36% on Chinese electric cars

The European Commission (EC) plans to impose five-year import duties of up to 36% on imports of Chinese electric cars.

This will happen if China does not offer an alternative solution to end the dispute over state subsidies, AFP reported.

"We are open to proposals from China that will resolve the issue," an EC official said.

The institution has published a draft proposal for the tariffs, which will supplement the current import duties of 10%.

According to Tesla's draft plans, additional import duties of 9% would be imposed on electric cars made in China. The plans must be approved by member states by the end of October.

The rate imposed on the American carmaker is significantly lower. | BGNES
