EU health agency: Countries to prepare for new smallpox cases in the bloc

The European Union's health agency has called on member states to prepare for new cases of a deadly strain of smallpox, AFP reported.

Earlier, Sweden announced the first case of the dangerous monkeypox on the Old Continent.

The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) "recommends that public health authorities in the EU/European Economic Area /EEA/ maintain high levels of preparedness planning and awareness-raising activities to enable rapid detection and responding'.

It is "very likely" that there will be more cases, the institution warned. |BGNES
