EU backs Biden's plan for Gaza peace deal

The European Union fully supports the comprehensive road map proposed by US President Joe Biden for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.

This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, quoted by France 24.

"The EU appreciates the determined efforts of the US, Egypt and Qatar to facilitate negotiations to end the war between Israel and Hamas, while ensuring Israel's security, to which the bloc remains fully committed," Borrell said in a written statement.

The diplomat pointed out that too many civilian lives had been lost.

"There is an urgent need to ensure the protection of civilians, the unconditional and immediate release of all hostages, and to increase the flow of much-needed humanitarian aid to Gaza given the deepening humanitarian crisis," Borrell said.

"Peace and stability in the Middle East are in the interest of both peoples, the region as a whole, as well as at the global level. The EU calls on both countries to accept and implement the three-phase proposal," added the High Representative.
