Estonia has pledged 1.2 billion euros to Ukraine by 2027

Estonian President Alar Karis pledged €1.2 billion to Kyiv by 2027 - a major commitment from a country of 1.3 million people - after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Estonia as part of his trip in the Baltic States, "Kiev Independent" reported.
Estonia, along with Lithuania and Latvia, are among Kiev's staunchest supporters against Russian aggression, committing the largest share of gross domestic product (GDP) of any ally.
During a joint press conference with Zelensky, Karis called on the EU to increase its military support for Ukraine as the country enters its third calendar year of all-out war with Russia.
"Ukraine needs more and better weapons. The capacity of the EU's military industry must be increased so that Ukraine gets what it needs, not tomorrow, but today," the Estonian president said.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Estonia's contribution to the defense of Ukraine amounts to about 500 million euros, which is about 1.4% of the country's GDP.
Over the next four years, Tallinn has pledged to spend 0.25% of its GDP on military aid to Kyiv.
Karis noted that Estonia has concrete plans to help rebuild Ukraine, adding that it would be fair to use frozen Russian funds for this purpose.
Last November, an Estonian parliamentary committee approved a government bill to use frozen Russian assets to finance Ukraine. The document still needs to be approved by a majority in parliament and signed by the president.
The Estonian head of state also revealed that the topic of a ceasefire is being raised in informal meetings among Western allies to "check the mood". He promised that his country's position remains unchanged: "There will be peace when Ukraine wins the war."
"Estonia's unwavering support for Ukraine, our people and our defense is evident today, during my visit and throughout the war," Zelensky wrote on the X social network.
"With President Alar Karis, we discussed cooperation at the level of European institutions, our potential in Europe, the development and perspectives of the front, as well as justice," the publication also states.
After his meeting with the Estonian president, Zelensky held a press conference with the country's Prime Minister Kaia Kalas.
Zelensky thanked Kalas and her country for their support, noting that Estonia "was with Ukraine from the very beginning" and highlighted Tallinn's military aid and support for EU aspirations.
The President of Ukraine also appreciated Estonia's support for Kiev's efforts to join NATO and in negotiations on security guarantees./BGNES
