Erdogan discussed the situation in Gaza with Guterres

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres ahead of the UN Security Council meeting on the situation in Gaza.

The presidential administration's liaison office reported that the international community's expectations regarding Israel's lawless attacks, ways to resolve the humanitarian crisis and efforts to achieve lasting peace in Gaza were discussed in the conversation.

Erdogan said that Israel continues to recklessly violate international law, the law of war and humanitarian law in the eyes of the international community and must bear responsibility for its crimes before international law.

The Turkish head of state expressed condolences over the death of more than 100 UN staff as a result of Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip.

The Turkish leader noted that Guterres' visit to the Rafah crossing helped draw the attention of the international community to what is happening in Gaza./BGNES
