Netherlands midfielder Frenkie De Jong, who suffered an ankle injury against Real Madrid on April 21, will play no more for Barcelona this season but should be healthy for Euro 2024, according to reports in the Spanish media.
The 26-year-old injured his ankle during Barça's 3-2 loss in El Clasico and tests confirmed he was suffering from a "right ankle sprain", the Catalan club said in a statement, without specifying how long he would be out.
According to local media reports, he is expected to be out for five weeks, meaning De Jong's season with Barcelona is over. According to the same sources, however, he should be healthy for Euro 2024 with the Netherlands (June 14-July 14).
This is the third ankle injury the Dutch international (54 games) has suffered this season, and he had only returned to action on 10 April.
At Euro-2024, the Netherlands will face France, Poland and Austria in the group stage.
Before that, the Dutch will play Canada and Iceland in friendlies on June 6 and 10. /BGNES
