Emily Blunt: My daughters thought I was mean because of 'The Devil Wears Prada'

Emily Blunt's daughters thought she was one of the "evilest" people on Earth after seeing her performance in The Devil Wears Prada.

The 41-year-old actress, who has daughters Hazel, 10, and Violet, 7, with husband John Krasinski, 44, played snarky assistant Emily Charlton in the 2006 comedy, and has now revealed how her heroine was so cruel that she left her children stunned.

She told Page Six about their reaction after seeing her perform: "They thought I was the meanest person they'd ever seen."

Emily added of the film's lasting impact on fans: "It's incredible that it has such an indelible mark on people and they quote it to me every week."

She added that the cast, which includes Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci, had "the time of their lives" working on the project, based on a Vogue-style magazine.

Emily said: “I was young at the time, it was my first big film. I remember my agent calling me and telling me about the opening weekend.

"I was like, 'Is it OK? Like I didn't know what was good.'

The actress emphasized that she has nothing in common with her character from The Devil Wears Prada, while also opening up about her love of supporting the American Stuttering Institute charity.

She said she was left "ashamed" of the stuttering she suffered from as a child and "started to shut down" before finally getting help.

Emily added: "I never thought I'd be in a job where I'd have to communicate so much... I think it's really ironic that I ended up in a job that's so public and full of so much public speaking. And I'm grateful because I love what I do."

Emily concluded by saying that she wants children who stutter to "talk openly" about it and not keep it "in the shadows." | BGNES
