Elton John: Marijuana legalization is one of the biggest mistakes of all time

Elton John isn't shy about taking a stand when it comes to marijuana.

In an interview with Time magazine, the legendary singer shares his opinion on the legalization of cannabis in parts of the US and Canada.

"I claim it's addictive. Leads to other drugs. When you're high - and I've been high - you don't think normally. Legalizing marijuana in America and Canada is one of the biggest mistakes of all time," he says.

John is interested in the subject from the perspective of not having a drug addiction for many years.

"He sponsored Eminem and arranged English pop star Robbie Williams' first stay in a rehab clinic," the publication points out.

One artist Elton John regrets not being able to help is the late George Michael, who struggled with drug abuse before he died of heart and liver disease in 2016. He was 53.

"It's hard to tell someone, it's hard to hear them say it," John remarked about trying to help Michael kick drugs.

John's longtime writing partner, Bernie Taupin, tells of the period when John was addicted to drugs, "I was horrified by his condition. It was downright awful."

"A lot of the work we did at the times when he was at his worst was not the best for either of us," Taupin explained. "I wasn't able to creatively invest time in writing material related to him until he actually found himself, and then it was easier for me." | BGNES
