Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, accused by civil rights groups of fueling anti-Jewish hatred on his social media platform X, will meet with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, along with Israelis whose relatives are being held by Hamas in Gaza.
Herzog's office announced the meeting, saying, "During the meeting, the president will emphasize the need for action to combat growing anti-Semitism online."
Musk, the billionaire who also runs Tesla and SpaceX, did not respond to requests for comment through spokespeople for Tesla and X.
Musk's visit coincides with a four-day truce in Israel's war with Hamas, during which 58 of the roughly 240 hostages Israel says were being held by Hamas have now been released.
Israel's Channel 12 reported that Musk will also meet with Benjamin Netanyahu later. There was no immediate comment from the Israeli prime minister's office.
Netanyahu met with Musk in California on September 18 and urged him to strike a balance between protecting freedom of expression and fighting hate speech after weeks of controversy over X's anti-Semitic content.
In response, Musk stated that he is against anti-Semitism and against anything that "promotes hatred and conflict", repeating his previous statements that X will not promote hate speech./BGNES
