The electric Renault Scenic won the title "Car of the Year" awarded by the European press, reported AFP.
According to a jury of 58 motoring journalists, Renault's small SUV narrowly edged out BMW's new 5 Series sedan.
The Scenic succeeds the Jeep Avenger, which won the award in 2023.
The ceremony was presented live from the Geneva Motor Show, which reopens after a four-year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The concern with the diamond emblem is the only European participant, while Volkswagen and Stellantis skipped the show this year with their multiple brands.
Renault introduced this modernized and electrified version of its best-selling family car in late 2023, with first deliveries scheduled for spring 2024.
Compact and quite light for an electric car, weighing 1,890 kg, it boasts a range of up to 625 km (WLTP) at a starting price of less than 40,000 euros, excluding bonuses.
The Scenic, the first model of its kind, won the award in Geneva in 1997. The last Renault to win the award was the Clio in 2006. /BGNES
