Pop star Ed Sheeran has acquired a minority stake in his favourite football team Ipswich Town, the Premier League football club has announced.
The 33-year-old English singer-songwriter, who is a long-time fan of the team, has acquired a 1.4% stake in the club and is the shirt sponsor of Ipswich's men's and women's teams from 2021.
But an Ipswich statement said Sheeran would not be joining the Portman Road board as his stake was only a passive and minority investment.
"I'm really excited to have bought a small percentage of my hometown football club," Sheeran said.
"It's every football fan's dream to own the club they support and I feel very grateful for this opportunity," added Sheeran.
The 2024/25 season sees Ipswich return to the Premier League for the first time in 22 years.
Ipswich chairman Mark Ashton added: "The support Ed and his team have given us over the past three years has been remarkable and him making this investment in the club is a natural extension of our relationship."
