EC proposes extension of emergency energy measures for 12 months

The European Commission has proposed a 12-month extension of the emergency measures introduced last year in response to the energy crisis triggered by Russia's incursion into Ukraine, BGNES reports.

The measures were necessitated by Russia's use of energy resources as a weapon.

"Although the situation on the European energy market is more secure than it was 12 months ago, the Commission is proposing this extension to further improve the security of gas supply and strengthen the resilience of the market. The three measures proposed for extension today include the so-called gas solidarity measures, the Market Correction Mechanism (MCM) and rules related to the licensing of renewable energy projects. /BGNES
