Jack Draper reached his first Grand Slam semi-final at the US Open, becoming the first Briton to reach the last four since Andy Murray won the title 12 years ago.
Draper, the world number 25, beat 10th-ranked Alex de Minaur of Australia 6-3, 7-5, 6-2 to move on and will face top seed Yannick Sinner or the 2021 champion for a place in Sunday's (September 8) final. Daniil Medvedev.
The 22-year-old left-hander pulled out the win despite taking a medical timeout early in the second set to bandage his right hamstring.
"It's unbelievable. It's my first time at Arthur Ashe Stadium, it means the world to me," said Draper, who had lost three times in three meetings with De Minaur before Wednesday.
"I played a solid match, and I feel the best physically I have in a long time. Maybe Alex had a little physical problem, but he's an incredible fighter."
Draper reached the semi-finals without losing a set, continuing his impressive summer streak in which he won his first ATP title in Stuttgart and then beat Carlos Alcaraz at Queens Club on the eve of Wimbledon.
He showed resilience to take the opening set on the sixth set point.
In the second set, he exchanged breaks with De Minaur and then took a vital 6-5 lead before cruising to a double break victory in the third set.
Draper was rewarded for his all-out attack by forcing De Minaur to reflect 14 of the 20 break points he faced, although at one point the Australian looked to have aggravated his recent hamstring problem.
Draper plated 11 aces in his 40 innings.
The British tennis player holds a 1-0 lead over Siner in straight sets, although the victory in Queens came three years ago.
He lost to Medvedev on clay in Rome earlier this year. | BGNES
