Luis de la Fuente's side completely outplayed their opponents but won by just one (own) goal, which came after Ricardo Calafiori put the ball into his own goal. Gianluigi Donnarumma made 8 saves in Italy's goal.

In the 24th minute, Donnarumma saved Alvaro Morata's dangerous shot with his foot, and seconds later deflected Fabian Ruiz's powerful shot from distance. Before the break, the Italians finally struck thanks to Chiesa sending the ball wide. Rodri got a yellow card, because of which he will miss the match with Albania.
In the 55th minute, Nico Williams crossed and Morata and Donnarumma deflected the ball, which eventually bounced off Calafiori's leg and into his net for 1-0.
Morata then tried to double Spain's lead, but Donnarumma parried his dangerous shot.
