Dog saves sleeping girl with diabetes

In the US, a specially trained dog saved a diabetic girl whose blood sugar rose sharply, reports the Daily Mail. In November, Shannon Boggs of Virginia was watching TV at home with her husband when their dog Spy ran up to them. The pet led the couple to the room of their 9-year-old daughter Raelyn, who has type 1 diabetes. It turned out that the sleeping girl's sugar level had more than doubled the upper limit, reaching 338 milligrams per deciliter. Thanks to the dog, the parents gave their daughter life-saving insulin in time and prevented a hyperosmolar diabetic coma.

Shannon Boggs explained that Raelynn carries an electronic blood glucose meter all the time, but in November she bought her a new model that hadn't yet been fine-tuned and therefore wasn't beeping. In addition, the girl was sick with the flu, which also caused her blood sugar levels to rise.

The American woman said that Spy was specially trained in a program to help diabetics. Such animals can smell substances that are released by patients during a diabetic crisis.

“The nose always works! Even when he sleeps. This dog is a true blessing to our family. We are very grateful to her," Boggs summed up the story of what happened on the social network.

It was previously reported that a dog in the UK had diagnosed its owner with a rare serious illness. The woman noticed the strange behavior of her dog, which constantly suffocated a part of her body. /BGNES
