Didier Deschamps to step down as France coach after 2026 World Cup

France coach Didier Deschamps will step down as France coach after the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, AFP reported.

The 56-year-old has been in charge of the team since 2012, winning the World Cup in Russia in 2018. Under Deschamps, France also reached the Euro 2016 final and the 2022 World Cup final, but lost both times to Portugal and Argentina. France also won the 2021 Nations League.

Deschamps has become one of the few in football to have won world titles as both players and coaches. In 1998, he captained France to their home World Cup triumph. He is also the coach who has led the "roosters" the longest.

Deschamps is expected to officially announce his decision to retire from the national team today. | BGNES
