Deafening ovation for Biden at the Democratic convention in Chicago

US President Joe Biden received a deafening ovation arriving at the Democratic convention in Chicago, AFP reported. He was introduced by his daughter Ashley for his farewell speech, less than a month after dropping out of the race for the White House against Donald Trump.

The Democratic leader, who withdrew his candidacy last month, was cheered for a long time by his party with chants of "We love you, Joe!"

In his emotional farewell speech before the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, President Joe Biden supported Kamala Harris and wished her to defeat the "loser" Donald Trump in the November elections, reported AFP.

The 81-year-old politician, who left the race for the White House in July, urged Americans to "put a prosecutor in the Oval Office instead of a convicted felon," referring to one of Harris' previous roles.

Biden vowed to be the "best volunteer" for Kamala Harris' campaign against Republican Donald Trump.

US President Joe Biden said protesters against Israel's military action in Gaza, who demonstrated outside the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, "have a point."

"These protestors in the street have a point. A lot of innocent people are being killed on both sides," Biden said in his farewell speech, adding that it's time to "stop this war.

After his speech, the Democratic leader, who withdrew his candidacy a month ago, was joined on stage by his vice president. Biden and Harris shared a long hug in front of the enthusiastic audience. | BGNES
