It's been known for a while that the beloved manga and anime series One Punch Man would be getting a film adaptation, but the news is that Community co-writer Dan Harmon, along with fellow Rick and Morty alum Heather Ann Campbell, have now been brought on board as screenwriters, IGN reports.
The project is being helmed by Justin Lin of the Fast series, and the script has been handed over to the new pair, with Heather Ann Campbell confirming this in a recent X post.
For anyone unfamiliar with One Punch Man: it's the tale of a bald man with inexplicable strength who can win any fight, as the name suggests, with one punch. The series is much more of a comedy than a traditional Action Shonen, with protagonist Saitama mostly frustrated by the lack of challenges this ability gives him as he tries to live his comfortable but lonely life.
The series began in 2009 as a webcomic by creator One and was later updated with new illustrations by Yusuke Murata as its popularity grew.
The anime series began in 2015, originally run by Madhouse, but was then handed over to J.C. Staff for subsequent seasons.
Heather Ann Campbell has been writing for television since 2008, with appearances on SNL, The Eric Andre Show, and more, as well as co-hosting Rick and Morty since 2022 and co-hosting the Get Anime'd podcast. Dan Harmon has been writing for film and television since 1999. / BGNES
