Cindy Crawford graces the cover of the January issue of Harper's Bazaar Singapore. In an interview with the publication, the '90s supermodel talks about her success, inspiration, and most memorable shows. The 57-year-old model poses for photographer Yu Tsai in looks from Givenchy, Dior, Max Mara, Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, and other brands.
Last year, Cindy became one of the heroines of the documentary series "Supermodels", in which she participated along with colleagues and friends Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington. Crawford said spending time with them was one of the best parts of working on the project. “I loved hearing each of their stories and memories. Of course, I was very touched by what Linda went through. I also learned a lot from Naomi's story. Although I heard Naomi explain that she was often paid less than other models, it was painful and a reminder that we all need to stick together to be empathetic."
“A big part of being successful as a model is having the right look at the right time. But I think one of the things that has also contributed to my success is being prepared on time. I also learned that modeling is a skill and can be improved."
She was able to make her name a brand before many others learned how to do it. Crawford not only walked the runway but released exercise videos, a make-up book, and a movie, partnered with brands, and built a career in television. “I didn't realize it at first, but as my career progressed I found that companies like Pepsi and Omega were willing to invest in me and have a long-term relationship, unlike those who always wanted the latest hot model. I've been working with Omega for almost 30 years and being on MTV's House of Style has helped me expand my audience."
Today, Cindy leads a measured life and carefully approaches the choice of photos and projects. “I'm inspired by the laid-back lifestyle of Los Angeles, travel, the beach, and the outdoors, and my daughter Kaya. It was so much fun to peek into the world of fashion again with her!”
In addition to Kaya, 22, Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber also have a 24-year-old son, Presley. Family is a priority for Cindy, but she also tries to find time for her hobbies. "I'm most interested in a balanced life. To have time for family, friends, work, philanthropy, and myself. I want to keep learning and growing and taking time so I can slow down and enjoy everything I have."
The supermodel, who has worked with famous designers and been photographed by top photographers for over 30 years, finds it difficult to single out one memorable moment in her career. And Cindy always has the best time with her famous friends. “The most memorable show was without a doubt the Versace show in 1991 where Christy, Linda, Naomi and I made our final exit to George Michael's 'Freedom'. It was one of those moments when you realize it's something special...even when it's happening". /BGNES
