Chinese President Xi Jinping calls for ceasefire in Gaza

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for a ceasefire in Gaza while on a visit to the Brazilian capital.
Xi expressed concern over the spread of the conflict in Gaza and "called for a ceasefire and an early end to the war" while meeting his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, AFP reported.
The Chinese president's call for a cessation of hostilities in Gaza, where Israel is continuing its offensive against Hamas, echoes the call he and other G-20 leaders made during the summit, which took place on 18 and 19 November in Rio.
The joint summit statement called for a "comprehensive" ceasefire in both Gaza and Lebanon, where Israel is also waging an offensive.
The UN Security Council held a vote on a resolution calling for an "immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire" in Gaza, but it was vetoed by Israel's ally, the United States, which said it was unrelated to the release of hostages.| BGNES
