Chelsea won at home to Tottenham 2:0 in a postponed match of the 26th round of the English Premier League.
The Blues started the match strongly and could have taken the lead early on, but Nicolas Jackson wasn't on targe. The hosts, led by former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, continued and the pressure paid off in the 24th minute when Conor Gallagher crossed in the box and Trevoh Chalobah rose to head in and give Chelsea the lead. The goal was checked by VAR and was eventually allowed. After the break, the hosts punished their city rivals for the second time in the match. Cole Palmer hit the crossbar, the ball took a deflection and was headed home by Jackson in the 72nd minute.
By the end, Ange Postecoglou's men had no answer and thus pulled away from fourth-placed Aston Villa. The team from Birmingham have a seven-point lead over Spurs, who still have a game in hand. Chelsea, on the other hand, remain with chances for the sixth place, which is currently occupied by Manchester United. The Red Devils have a three-point lead over the Blues, with Newcastle between the two teams on 53 points.
In the next round, Chelsea welcome West Ham in another London derby, while Tottenham have another tough game - away to Liverpool at Anfield. /BGNES
