CBS: Google plans new layoffs because of AI

According to CBS, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has warned employees of planned layoffs in the coming months. According to him, the company made this decision because it is "reorienting itself towards artificial intelligence" (AI).

Pichai assured that the layoffs, which in the past week alone have already affected hundreds of Google employees, will not reach the scale of last year, when 12,000 people were laid off. He wrote that some departments would not be affected by the cuts, but did not specify which ones.

"We have ambitious goals and will invest in our priorities this year. The reality is that to build the capacity for these investments, we will have to make tough choices ... and increase speed in some areas," the senior executive wrote.

In recent years, tech companies have been aggressively laying off employees due to declining revenues. In 2023, Amazon cut about 27,000 employees. According to calculations by the Layoffs.fyi service, over 260,000 people were laid off in the technology sector last year./BGNES
