Karlos Nassar showcased his status as the world's top talent in weightlifting by securing the 89kg title at the European Championships in Sofia. The 19-year-old Bulgarian delivered an exceptional performance, establishing his dominance on the bars.
Nassar's flawless execution from the outset set the stage for his triumph, as he successfully completed three lifts, culminating in a leading total of 176 kilograms. This performance left his closest competitor, Antonio Pizzolato of Italy, trailing by six kilograms.
In the clean and jerk segment, Nassar further solidified his lead, frustrating Pizzolato with successful attempts at 208 and 215 kilograms, resulting in an impressive total of 391 kilograms. Despite Nassar's attempt to break the world record in the weight class with a lift of 224 kilograms, he opted not to, preserving himself for future competitions and the upcoming Olympics in Paris this summer.
Pizzolato settled for second place, finishing with an 11-kilogram deficit to Nassar, while Moldovan Marin Robu secured the bronze medal with a total lift of 378 kilograms. With Nassar's victory, Bulgaria has now claimed four titles in the domestic championship, establishing itself as the leading nation in terms of medals, including one silver and one bronze. /BGNES
