Carlos Corberan is the new head coach of Valencia

Valencia have announced 41-year-old Carlos Corberan as their new head coach for a period of two and a half years. The Spaniard takes charge of the team after parting ways with English Championship club West Bromwich Albion.

Corberan spent three years in charge of the Leeds U23 team and was part of Marcelo Bielsa's staff before becoming coach of Huddersfield in 2020. The specialist, who also managed Olympiacos and West Bromwich, played for Valencia's youth team.

"Carlos Corberan is the new coach of Valencia until 2027. The club has informed West Bromwich Albion that he has activated the option to leave in his contract with the English team", a Valencia press release said.

Corberan replaces Ruben Baraja, who was fired on Monday. Valencia are second to last in the La Liga table with 12 points. The team has won just two of its 17 matches and is four points adrift from safety.

Valencia, who have a game in hand, host champions Real Madrid in their next match on January 3. The game was initially postponed due to flooding in the Valencia region last month. | BGNES
