Carlos Alcaraz has offered his apologies a day after breaking his racket in the aftermath of losing to Gael Monfis in the second round of the ATP and WTA in Cincinnati.
The Spaniard, who currently holds the French Open and Wimbledon titles, exploded in frustration at his play against the French veteran.
Gael Monfils served up the biggest surprise in Cincinnati, defeating Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 7-6 (7/5), 6-4 in the second round of the Masters tournament. For the first time in three clashes, the 37-year-old Frenchman managed to beat the Spaniard 16 years his junior.
"I apologise because my attitude was not right yesterday and that's something you shouldn't do on the court. And I'm human, I was nervous and it's very difficult to control yourself in a situation like that. I will work to make sure it doesn't happen again. It's time to think about New York," Alcaraz wrote on social networking site X. | BGNES
