Car production in Turkey fell 26.7 percent year-on-year in August to 53,502 vehicles, according to a report from the Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
The production of passenger cars decreased by 40.4% from the previous year to 29,398 units last month, Anadolu Agency reported.
Automotive exports, including cars and commercial vehicles, also fell by 17.7% to 57,856 units year-on-year.
Turkey generated $2.7 billion in revenue from auto exports in August, down 5.1 percent from the same period.
However, the domestic car market grew by 0.4% year-on-year with total sales of 93,792 units.
Major international car manufacturers such as Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes, Renault and Toyota have factories in Turkey, which is a significant global automotive market.
In the January-August period, car production decreased by 7% on an annual basis to 877,152 units.
Passenger car production saw a milder annual decline of 4.7%, amounting to 571,575 units over the 8-month period. | BGNES
