"A cessation of hostilities between Israel and the Hamas militant group is vital to the release of the hostages in Gaza, but for a lasting ceasefire to be achieved, many conditions must first be met."
This was stated by British Foreign Minister David Cameron during his visit to Thailand, US News reported.
Cameron said last year's attacks on Israeli civilians by Hamas and its hostage-taking were inhumane and the only way for the Palestinian people to have a future was to eliminate the militant group.
"It is extremely important that we try to turn this pause into a lasting and sustainable ceasefire," said Britain's top diplomat.
"We will only do this if a whole bunch of conditions are met... we have to get the leaders of Hamas out of Gaza, we have to get the destructive terrorist infrastructure out," he added.
His remarks come as Washington begins a new diplomatic push for a ceasefire, the release of hostages and the delivery of food aid to prevent starvation in the Palestinian enclave./BGNES
