The current Macedonian Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani will be a candidate for the President of North Macedonia.
The leader of the "Democratic Union for Integration" (DUI) Ali Ahmeti officially announced the candidacy in a video address from the party headquarters in Mala Rechitsa, BGNES reported.
Ahmeti called on Macedonian citizens "to unite for the most important referendum at the moment": "NO to Russia, YES to Europe" and to elect a pro-European president and vice president.
According to Ali Ahmeti, the opening of the constitution will enable the implementation of the Treaty of friendship, good-neighbourliness and cooperation with Bulgaria and the continuation of European integration. DUI will not participate in a cabinet that refuses to accept the constitutional changes.
"The upcoming elections - parliamentary and presidential - are of decisive importance in this battle. Therefore, we ask you to stay together, to line up with us for the realization of our demands from (from 2016 and 2020) for constitutional changes and the election of a president and vice president of the country in the parliament, writing the Bulgarians and other communities in the constitution and to say categorically NO to Russia and YES to Europe. I give you a firm oath that we will not be part of a government that will not change the constitution and we will go in opposition to fight and defeat existential threats to our country," the party leader said.
The first round of the presidential elections will be held on April 24, and the second on May 8. Along with the second round, parliamentary elections will also be held. /BGNES
