Burdock tea contributes to liver health and brighter skin

A health expert has explained how a cup of tea a day can help detoxify the liver and even brighten the skin. On her TikTok page, which boasts 566k followers, Jennifer Temple shared the detox drink, which she recommends drinking daily for a week for best results.

Jennifer is a certified specialist in Ayurveda, a holistic, natural medical system that originated in India over 3,000 years ago. She is also the founder and owner of Purely Ayurveda.

In a recent clip online, Jennifer says:

"Drink a glass of this every day for a week to cleanse your liver, give yourself a boost of energy and reduce toxins in your body - kind of like a mini detox. By the way, she is very gentle."

“So this liver-loving herb is called milk thistle, and this is the ground version, and these are the whole seeds. I personally like to grind them and here's why; I just found that if you grind the milk thistle seeds beforehand, you don't have to soak them for long because those little seeds are hard, and here's how to make a simple cup of milk thistle detox tea,” explained the expert.

"It's not even a recipe because it's so simple, just take a cup of boiling water and add a teaspoon of ground milk thistle seeds, so I have a spice grinder and I just grind the seeds in there, but it's okay if you don't have a grinder, you can simply use one teaspoon of whole seeds. Soak for at least 10 minutes and drink once a day - and don't be surprised if after a week you notice that your skin is much more radiant and healthy," added Temple.

Milk thistle is often promoted for its protective effect on the liver and is often used by people who have liver damage due to conditions such as alcoholic liver disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, hepatitis and even liver cancer.

Although more research is needed on how it works, milk thistle is thought to reduce liver damage caused by free radicals, which are formed when the liver metabolizes toxic substances. A 2021 study showed improvement in liver function in people with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease who took a milk thistle dietary supplement, suggesting it may help reduce inflammation and liver damage.

Thanks to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, sea buckthorn can be a useful supplement for people with acne.
The purpose of the liver is to break down toxins into harmless particles. A fatty liver can become heavy and enlarged, which can lead to fullness under the right side of the chest and shoulder pain. | BGNES
