Grigor Dimitrov qualified for the quarterfinals of the French Open tennis championship for the first time in his career.
The #10 ranked Bulgarian won 7:6(5), 6:4, 7:6(3) over #8 Hubert Hurkach from Poland. The meeting lasted 2 hours and 55 minutes.
This is Dimitrov's sixth win in six matches against Hurkach. With this success, Dimitrov recorded victory #21 at Roland Garros and #90 in Grand Slam tournaments. The Bulgarian has already qualified for the quarterfinals of all Grand Slam tournaments.
This is Grigor's fourth straight win at the tournament with only one set lost. In the quarterfinals, Dimitrov will play against No. 2 in the world rankings Yannick Siner of Italy or No. 79 Corentin Mute of France.
Dimitrov reflected two break points at 1:1 in the first set against Hurkach, and at 5:5 he caught up with a 0-40 deficit on his own serve. This led to a tiebreak in the first set. In it, Grigor led with 6-3 points and from his third set ball he won with 7-5 points.
The Bulgarian broke for 4:3 in the second part and after 6:4 led with a 2-0 set.
Dimitrov broke for 2:1 in the third set, and at 3:1 he missed another chance to break. Hurkac reached his first breakthrough in the match and equalized for 3:3. At 4:4, Grigor missed two chances for a breakthrough and it came to a second tiebreak in the match. In it, Dimitrov led 4-0, and at 6:3 points he reached three match points.
