Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel is on a one-day official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt. The visit is the first by a foreign minister in 12 years. The purpose of the visit is the development and deepening of cooperation based on common interests and values, the press center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
The Arab Republic of Egypt is a key partner of the Republic of Bulgaria in the Middle East and North Africa region. The AR of Egypt maintains the partnership with the EU, as well as a strengthened partnership with NATO.
Within the framework of the visit, the first meeting of the Joint Cooperation Commission (JCC), chaired by the ministers of foreign affairs of the two countries, will be held. The commission was formed with the signing of an agreement between the two parties in 2018.
The delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Maria Gabriel included Todor Tagarev, Minister of Defense, Georgi Gvozdeikov, Minister of Transport and Communications, Bogdan Bogdanov, Minister of Economy and Industry, Milena Stoycheva, Minister of Innovation and Growth and Rumen Radev, Minister of Energy.
The development and deepening of trade and economic relations in areas such as energy, transport, defense, innovation, tourism, food industry will be discussed.
A number of bilateral memoranda are expected to be signed during the visit./BGNES
