Kubrat Pulev broke Andrzej Wawrzyk at a fight gala night in Costa Mesa, California. The Polish boxer ended up on the floor twice, but somehow lasted all 10 rounds, with blood on his face and teeth at the end. However, the judges were unanimous in awarding the victory to the Cobra, his 30th in 32 professional matches. It was understood that the Bulgarian was considering canceling the match. In the hours before the fight, he developed a high temperature but still managed to get into the ring. This was revealed by Kubrat himself after the referee raised his hand.

The success is an important step towards the return of the 42-year-old Pulev to the top 10 of the rankings. His big goal is to once again become a contender for the belts of one of the four elite organizations. So far, Kubrat has fought twice for world titles - against Vladimir Klitschko and Anthony Joshua.

The Cobra has not stepped into the ring since his loss to Derek Chisora in the summer of 2022. He is 30-3 with 14 of his wins coming by way of knockout. His opponent Andrzej Wawrzyk, who is 36 years old, suffered a third defeat in the professional ring. The Polish boxer has 34 wins.

Earlier at the boxing gala, his brother Tervel won his first heavyweight match. He won by decision over the American Dionardo Minor.

The brothers were supported by nearly 100 Bulgarians in the stands. Interestingly, both were forced to submit to doping controls before their matches. Organizers refused to postpone the testing until after the gala and threatened to cancel the meetings. /BGNES
