"Britain will support Ukraine for as long as it takes."
This was stated by British Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt during his meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv, the Kyiv Independent reported.
Hunt demanded to know how Ukraine plans to use the new equipment owed by the UK.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak this week announced new £500 million in military aid to Ukraine, along with the UK's biggest-ever donation of critical munitions such as missiles and air defenses. It brings Britain's military support to Ukraine to £3bn this financial year, on top of the £4.6bn already committed since Russia's illegal invasion began. This level of support will be maintained for as long as necessary.
"The war in Ukraine has been going on longer than many feared, but today I saw that the resolve of the people remains unwavering. The responsibility now rests on friends of Ukraine to increase the pressure on Putin and help restore peace and prosperity to Europe - we are determined to play our leading role," said the British finance minister.
"Ukraine's security is our security, and the billions in funds and equipment Britain has provided so far are just the beginning of a long-term commitment to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia for as long as necessary," he added.
In response, Zelensky expressed his gratitude to the British government and the British people for being with Ukraine since the first day of the war./BGNES
