Manchester City advanced to the FA Cup quarter-finals after beating Luton 6-2 away from home. At Kenilworth Road, the Citizens were inspired by their top scorer Erling Holland, who went on a rampage and netted five of the six goals.
City's Norwegian goal machine opened the scoring after 180 seconds before making it 2-0 in the 18th minute. In the 40th minute, Haaland completed his hat trick. Kevin De Bruyne assisted all three of his goals. Luton pulled one back through Jordan Clark, who was once again in the arms of his team-mates, making it 2-3 in the 52nd minute. However, this only angered the guests, especially Haaland, who scored two more goals in the 55th and 58th minutes. De Bruyne provided his fourth assist of the match, and for the Norwegian's fifth goal, the pass came from Bernardo Silva. There was still time for Mateo Kovacic to score in Tim Krul's goal. The only minus for Pep Guardiola's team came from the forced substitution of Jack Grealish, who was replaced before the break by Jeremy Doku.
Thus, City continue their successful defense of the trophy and wait to learn the name of their opponent in the next phase. The Sky Blues have a city derby with Manchester United next at the Etihad on Sunday, March 3.
The Citizens joined Coventry, Leicester and Newcastle in also reaching the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. Coventry did just that on Monday night when they demolished sixth division Maidstone United 5-0. Leicester, meanwhile, eliminated Bournemouth after a narrow 1-0 away win after extra-time, while Newcastle needed penalties to break the resistance of Blackburn. /BGNES
