Italy's Federica Brignone won the super giant slalom in Kvitfjell, Norway, a round of the Alpine Skiing World Cup. The Italian was much faster than the competition today and beat all her rivals by more than half a second.
Switzerland's Lara Gut-Behrami continued her strong performance in recent weeks to finish second, 0.61 seconds behind the winner. Czech star Ester Ledecka completed the top 3 (+0.79 seconds).
With yesterday's win and today's second place in Norway, Gut-Behrami is now very close to winning a second major crystal globe. She has a 326-point lead over American Mikaela Shiffrin, who is still recovering from injury. Shiffrin announced that she plans to return to the track for the two starts in Are, Sweden next week. With a total of six starts remaining until the end of the season, Shiffrin's chances of defending her title are slim. An advantage for her is that four of the starts are in the technical disciplines, where she has dominated in recent years.
In the standings for the discipline, Gut-Behrami has a lead of 69 points over the Austrian Cornelia Hütter, who finished seventh today. The Swiss is also the leader in the downhill and giant slalom standings.
The next women's starts are on March 9 and 10 in Are. /BGNES
