Boy George: Happiness is a matter of choice

Boy George has discovered "happiness" in a way he never thought possible in his youth.

The 63-year-old popstar, whose real name is George Alan O'Dowd, is preparing to return to the stage with his Culture Club bandmates for their upcoming tour, but admits that in the band's heyday he felt a great "anxiety" about going on stage that has dissipated over the years.

In an interview with British TV show This Morning, he said, "I think I'm more enjoyable now because I'm turning the whole process into fun. I used to tell myself that nobody could come into the make-up room when I was getting ready. It was all drama, drama, drama, angst. But now I just seem to enjoy it all when I'm getting ready. I'm chasing joy in a way I never thought possible. I didn't really understand that happiness was a choice."

The "Karma Chameleon" hit singer has learned to think about things differently and insists happiness is a "choice" and wishes he knew how to "have fun" in his youth the way he does now.

He shared, "It's a matter of practice. I follow three principles that teach you to look at the way you think differently. I also talk to myself and do a lot of affirming exercises. As soon as I wake up, I tell myself I'm in a good mood. It's very easy to slip... I always tell people who say, "Oh, I'm not a morning person," well, you just make it real. I really think happiness is a choice. I wish I knew how to have fun the way I do now." | BGNES
