US President Joe Biden has vowed to seek "accountability" from the perpetrators of the drone attack on a US post in Jordan that killed three US soldiers and wounded at least 34 people, marking the first time US soldiers have been killed by enemy fire in the Middle East since the start of the Gaza war, CNN reported.
US Central Command confirmed the deaths and said eight service members had to be medically evacuated from Jordan. The number of injured is expected to rise.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a group that unites several Iran-backed militias in the country, said it attacked a number of sites along the Jordanian-Syrian border on January 28 - including a camp near the US base in Jordan where the soldiers were killed.
US officials said the drone that killed the US servicemen in Tower 22 was fired by Iranian-backed fighters and appeared to have come from Syria. The US government has yet to name a specific militia it believes is responsible.
Iran denies having played any role in the attack./BGNES
