On Saturday, US President Joe Biden reaffirmed Washington's support for Kyiv amidst the Russian invasion, cautioning that Vladimir Putin's ambitions extend beyond Ukraine.
"Putin will not halt at Ukraine," Biden stated during a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron following their discussions in Paris.
"All of Europe is at risk, and we will not allow that to happen," Biden emphasized to journalists during his state visit to France.
"The United States stands firmly with Ukraine. We will not, I repeat, abandon them," he asserted.
In front of reporters, Macron expressed gratitude to Biden: "Thank you, Mr. President, for leading the world's foremost power with the commitment of a partner who values and respects Europeans."
On Friday, Biden and Macron met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris, reaffirming their support for Ukraine's cause.
President Biden, 81, has been in France since Wednesday, participating in commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, which were pivotal in World War II.
Biden also drew parallels between the preservation of American democracy and Russia's invasion of Ukraine, underscoring the importance of upholding democratic values.
Biden is preparing for a presidential election later this year against his Republican predecessor, Donald Trump, in what analysts predict will be a significant test for US democracy.
Trump has indicated a lack of interest in international alliances, including NATO.
"We have once again demonstrated the strength of alliances and what we can achieve when we stand united," Biden said. | BGNES
