"Democracy in the world is at risk. The US will not withdraw from Ukraine, otherwise the country will be subjugated."
This was stated by US President Joe Biden on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of "D-Day" (the landing of the Allies in Normandy during the Second World War - note ed.).
Biden, Britain's King Charles III, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to the tens of thousands of Allied soldiers who landed on the sandy beaches of Normandy in northern France on June 6, 1944.
According to the American president, "D-Day" showed the need for international alliances. These words of Biden were a criticism of his opponent in the US presidential elections - Donald Trump, who questions the need for NATO.
"We live in a time when democracy is at greater risk around the world than at any time since the end of World War II. Isolationism was not the answer 80 years ago and it is not the answer today. True alliances make us stronger - a lesson I pray Americans never forget," the US head of state emphasized.
Biden vowed that under his leadership, the US "will not withdraw" from Ukraine, "because if we do, Ukraine will be subjugated and it won't end there."
"Ukraine's neighbors will be threatened, all of Europe will be threatened," he added, describing Vladimir Putin as a "tyrant bent on domination." | BGNES
