Biden: I withdrew from the presidential race to unite my party

"There is room for younger voices in American politics. I withdrew from the election to unite my party."

This was stated by US President Joe Biden during what may be his last speech to the nation from the Oval Office, AFP reported.

"Protecting the democracy that is at stake is more important than any title. I decided that the best way forward was to pass the torch to a new generation. This is the best way to unite our nation," Biden said.

"There is a time and a place for years of experience in public life. There is a time and a place for new voices, fresh voices, yes, younger voices," added the American head of state.

He called for an end to divisiveness in American politics and said the country is stronger than "any dictator or tyrant."
