The government of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was left stunned after the Constitutional Court blew a €60 billion hole in the 2024 budget, reported DPA.

The Constitutional Court's decision said that unused pandemic funding could not be moved to climate and green sector projects, causing urgent spending cuts and shredding of next year's budget plans. The race to find a solution that can be approved by the legislature by the end of the year will dominate debate in parliament and at the chancellery.

The year's final Bundestag session begins next Monday. /BGNES
