Jude Bellingham admitted he felt like Cristiano Ronaldo when he backhanded England's equalizer against Slovakia in the last 16 of Euro 2024 that saved the Three Lions' campaign.
The Real Madrid midfielder's eye-catching 95th-minute performance restored parity against the Slovakians before Harry Kane scored early in extra time to send England through to the quarter-finals against Switzerland on Saturday.
Kane described his team-mate's goal as one of the greatest in the history of the national team, and Bellingham admitted he compared himself to Ronaldo, who scored a similar goal for Real Madrid against Juventus in the Champions League in 2018 - although he changed his mind after seeing his effort again.
"It was all about instinct. The ball came to the right place and was a little behind me. When I was in the air I said to myself: "I'm so high, just like Ronaldo!". "But I saw the replay, one of my hands was on the ground, so it wasn't the most acrobatic shot. But things worked out well. Definitely one of the most important and unforgettable memories of my career to date", said Bellingham.
He is still a doubt for the quarter-final with the Swiss after UEFA launched a disciplinary investigation against him over the way he celebrated his stunning goal. The midfielder clutched his crotch looking towards the Slovakia bench and is in danger of missing England's next game if he is suspended. | BGNES
