Belgium pledges $165m to rebuild infrastructure in Kiev and Chernihiv regions

As part of its efforts to rebuild Ukraine, Brussels has assumed responsibility for the reconstruction of 2 regions, including the cities of Kiev and Chernihiv, which have experienced numerous Russian attacks since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion.

Vasyl Shkurakov, Acting Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine, signed memoranda with Dirk Depre, Permanent Representative of the Belgian development agency Enabel in Ukraine.

The agreements outline plans to rebuild, renovate and construct education, health and energy infrastructure. In addition, the two sides aim to build shelters in Ukraine and put in place back-up power and heating systems.

In May, President Volodymyr Zelensky and Belgian Prime Minister Alexandre de Croix signed a 10-year bilateral security agreement under which Brussels will provide Ukraine with at least €977 million in military aid in 2024. | BGNES
