Marta Bassino secured her first-ever downhill victory in Crans-Montana, in the second consecutive competition in the Swiss mountains. The 27-year-old Italian displayed remarkable speed, leaving her competition trailing behind. Federica Brignone, also from Italy, clinched the second spot, finishing over a second behind her compatriot.
Lara Gut-Behrami, representing the host nation, completed the top three, maintaining her impressive performance in recent weeks. This triumph marks Bassino's seventh success in the World Cup for alpine skiing and her inaugural win in the downhill discipline. Previously, her best result in downhill was a second-place finish in Bansko in 2020.
Gut-Behrami's third-place finish today propelled her to the top of the downhill classification, displacing the injured Sofia Goja. The seasoned Swiss skier now leads in three disciplines - downhill, Super-G, and giant slalom. Furthermore, she widened her lead in the overall classification over the injured American, Mikaela Shiffrin, by 165 points, positioning herself well for a potential second major crystal globe of her career. /BGNES
