Barcelona beat Mallorca by a narrow 1-0 in the opening match of the 28th round of the Spanish La Liga.
The Catalans could have taken the lead in the 24th minute when they were awarded a penalty, but Ilkay Gundogan failed to beat the visitors' keeper Predrag Rajkovic. However, the "Blaugranas" got the much-desired goal in the 73rd minute, when 16-year-old talent Lamine Yamal scored after an assist from substitute Robert Lewandowski.
Barca temporarily moved into second place with 61 points, five behind leaders Real Madrid and two ahead of third-placed Girona, but both teams have yet to play their matches. Mallorca is 15th with 27 points, eight away from the relegation zone.
The Copa del Rey finalists host Granada in the next round, while Xavi's side first face Napoli in the last 16 of the Champions League before the Catalans visit Atletico Madrid in La Liga. /BGNES
