Athletic Bilbao are through to the Copa del Rey semi-finals after an impressive 4:2 comeback win over Barcelona after extra time. Regular time ended in a 2:2 draw and in extra time the Basques were more assertive and won.
The match started in a dream way for the hosts who opened through Gorka Guruzeta in the 1st minute. Within just six, however, the Catalans hit back, making a complete turnaround after goals from Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal. Oihan Sancet restored parity shortly after the start of the second half, thus ending the regular 90 minutes.
Bilbao delivered its decisive blows at the end of the two overtimes, as the Williams brothers - Inaki and Nico, were accurate for the team, as Inaki, who appeared from the bench, also made an assist. Athletic, who have won 23 trophies in the competition, have thus joined Real Sociedad and Mallorca, who have also secured a place in the last four. Sociedad beat Celta 2-1 away and Mallorca won against Girona 3-2 in the Balearic Islands.
The last semi-finalist will be decided from the clash between Atletico Madrid and Sevilla, who face each other later on tonight. /BGNES
