Arsenal made a mistake against Aston Villa and opened the way for Liverpool to the title

Arsenal made a wrong step in the battle for the title in England, after taking only a point from their home game against Aston Villa in a match from the 22nd round of the Premier League.

At the Emirates, the hosts missed a two-goal lead and took only points from the match. The pressure of the "gunners" gave a result in the 35th minute, when Gabriel Martinelli opened the score, and ten minutes after the break, Kai Havertz made it 2:0. In the 60th minute, midfielder Youri Tielemans brought Villa back into the match, and eight minutes later, Birmingham's top scorer Ollie Watkins made it 2:2.

Two minutes before the end of regular time, the Londoners thought they had won the match after Mikel Merino's shot deflected off Havertz and into the visitors' goal. After VAR intervention, the goal was disallowed for a handball by the German striker.

In the end, no more goals were scored and the two teams shared the points.

Arsenal are now six points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand. Aston Villa are seventh in the standings with 36 points. | BGNES
