Five of the suspects are citizens of Armenia, while two others are former residents of Nagorno-Karabakh.
The coup plotters recruited several Armenian citizens in 2024 and paid them about 220,000 rubles a month to travel to Russia and undergo three-month military training courses and join the army upon their return. The recruits were taken to Rostov-on-Don, where the plot's leaders conducted a lie detector test to determine any possible ties to Armenian law enforcement. The recruits are then taken to the Arbat military base to undergo close combat training.
Only afterwards were they told that the real purpose of the training was to return to Armenia and seize power by staging a coup. Some of the recruits refused to participate in the coup and left the group. The coup attempt was foiled as a result of investigative actions by Armenian law enforcement. three suspects were imprisoned.
Law enforcement authorities are working to identify other accomplices of the suspects. | BGNES
